I'm cryin' - Shanice

'I'm cryin'' was another single from Shanice Wilson's 1991 album 'Inner child'. It's a typical American ballad, produced by Narada Michael Walden, who co-wrote the song with Wilson.

I've never been very impressed with the vocal part of this song, as it lacks emotion and sounds too much like a child trying to sing, but the music had a certain appeal - and because of the instrumental version on this single I bought it.

Lovin' you - Shanice

'Lovin' you' was originally released in 1975 by Minnie Riperton. The sugary sweet song reached number 1 in the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and was a worldwide hit.

Shanice Wilson recorded a cover version of the song on her 1991 album 'Inner child'. It was released as the second single from the album after the successful single 'I love your smile'. It could not match the success; it only reached number 54 in the UK singles chart, while it didn't chart in the Dutch Top 40. Shanice recorded the song for a second time on her 2006 album 'Every woman dreams'.

'I love your smile' was released as the first single from Shanice Wilson's 1992 album 'Inner child'. The song features a saxophone solo by Branford Marsalis. Shanice actually says 'Blow, Branford, Blow' during the solo. Janet Jackson and René Elizondo can be heard laughing at the end of the song.

The single reached number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and the UK singles chart, whereas in the Dutch Top 40, it reached number 1. It is the most successful hit of Shanice's career.

Saving forever for you - Shanice

Shanice Lorraine Wilson was born on May 14, 1973 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. When she was only eight years old, she appeared in a commercial for Kentucky Fried Chicken with Ella Fitzgerald. In 1984, she performed on 'Star search', an American talent show on TV. Shortly after her appearance, she was signed to A&M Records.

'Saving forever for you' was Shanice's second top 5 hit in America. It is a pretty straightforward soul song, written by Diane Warren, which explains its slightly formulaic character. The song appeared on the soundtrack cd of the popular television series 'Beverley Hills 90210', which was recently brought back to life in the form of the spin-off series '90210'.

My collection: 7" single no. 1867
Found: Melody Maker, Den Haag, February 13, 1993
Cost: 6,5 guilders
Tracks: 'Saving forever for you (radio edit)' / 'Saving forever for you (instrumental)'
