It had to happen, of course: after 'A far l'amore comincia tu' and 'Puisque tu l'aimes dis-le lui', I came across 'Liebelei', the German version of the original Italian song by Raffaella Carrá. I wouldn't actually hunt for it, but finding a copy for just one euro does make it a very attractive proposition.
This German version has a very different cover when compared to the other two, while the song remains pretty much the same. The German lyrics were written by German songwriter, journalist, author and yodel artist Gerd Thumser.

Another purchase that is explained by the artwork only. This French edition of Raffaella Carra's biggest hit, 'A far l'amore comincia tu' swaps the two sides to present the French version as the A-side track. Both the disc and the sleeve were made in France.
Raffaella Maria Roberta Pelloni was born on June 18, 1943 and became successful as a singer, dancer, TV presenter and actress. After her boom in the Italian market of the early 1970's, she moved to Spain, doing television and releasing records in the Spanish language. This led her to move to South America, where her records had been heard for some years. In 1979, she established her headquarters in Buenos Aires, which was under a military dictatorship. Raffaella Carrà was one of the figures of the ATC, the official television network of Argentina.
I wanted to buy this single back in 1978, but instead I bought Patsy Gallant's 'From New York to L.A.' So this weekend I did something rather historical: I finally bought it. More than 3600 singles and 30 years later!
Raffaella Carra was born in Bologna, Italy on June 18, 1943. 'A far l'amore comincia tu' ('To make love, your move first') was her biggest international success. Several versions of the song exist. This single contains the original Italian version plus the French version. The Spanish version is called 'En el amor todo es empezar', in Germany it was known as 'Liebelei' and in England it was 'Do It, Do It Again'. In the Netherlands, the original Italian version charted, and peaked at number 3.
