Bumped - Right said Fred

'Bumped!' was the first single from Right said Fred's second album 'Sex and travel'. It combined Nineties rhythms with a rather forgettable melody and lyric. I mainly bought this single out of curiosity - but I have to say I haven't played it much since I bought it.

The single was a succes in the UK and the Netherlands, peaking at number 32 and number 30 respectively.

Those simple things / (What a day for a) Daydream - Right said Fred

Right said Fred found fame with songs like 'I'm too sexy' and 'Deeply dippy', that were considered humorous but no serious attempts at making music. In a way, the double A-sided single 'Those simple things/Daydream' changed matters a bit. These were two beautiful and serious pop songs.

'Daydream' is a cover version of a song by the Lovin' Spoonful, whereas the beautifully orchestrated 'Those simple things' was an original track. Both were taken from Right said Fred's debut album 'Up'. The single reached number 29 in the UK singles chart and number 20 in the Dutch Top 40.

Deeply dippy - Right said Fred

'Deeply dippy' was released as the third single by Right said Fred. While their debut single 'I'm too sexy' has become some sort of cult classic, this single ended up peaking one place higher than that one, at the top of the UK singles chart in April 1992. In the Dutch Top 40 the single reached number 10.

The song was later covered by The Rockingbirds on the Terence Higgins Trust supporting charity EP, 'The Fred EP'.

I'm too sexy - Right said Fred

The recent single by the Sugababes, entitled 'Get sexy', prominently features bits of 'I'm too sexy', the 1991 hit single by Right said Fred. The three man group of former bodybuilders debuted with the song, which reached number 2 in the UK singles chart.

The lyric of the song is written from the point of view of a self-satisfied fashion model. The song's lyrics express confidence that his personal level of sexiness makes him too sexy for numerous things, most notably his shirt. The song's instrumental break is based on the guitar riff in the Jimi Hendrix song 'Third stone from the sun'.

My collection: 7" single no. 1683
Found: Graz, July 3, 1992
Cost: 10 Schilling
Tracks: 'I'm too sexy' / 'I'm too sexy (instrumental)'
