Ooh aah... Just a little bit - Gina G

Last year I bought a copy of Ooh aah... Just a little bit on vinyl. It was the jukebox copy presumably from the UK. When I found out about that version, I also found out about this American pressing. Normally I wouldn't collect just any old artist's different pressings of the same single, but this single actually contains a different track. The 'Eurovision Song Contest version' appears on the B-side instead of the 'Motiv8 extended vocal mix'.

Of course, this is also a Eurovision single and Eurovision singles have a special place in my collection.

My collection: 7" single no. 5907
Found: Discogs.com, received July 4, 2018
Cost: 3 euro
Tracks: 'Ooh aah… Just a little bit (Motiv8 radio edit)' / 'Ooh aah… Just a little bit (Eurovision Song Contest version)'

Ooh aah... Just a little bit - Gina G

One of the most successful Eurovision entries for the United Kingdom in recent decades was Gina G's 'Ooh aah... Just a little bit'. It was a top 10 hit in the UK even before she took to the stage at the Oslo Spektrum in Norway on 18 May 1996. Dressed in a short thigh-skimming glittery metal dress, her vocals turned out to be too weak to carry the song in a live situation, causing her to only make it to eighth place in a field of 23 competitors.

I wasn't aware that this song had even been pressed onto 7" vinyl, until I found this jukebox copy online. No picture sleeve unfortunately, because jukebox singles usually don't come with those, but the song remains one of the best efforts from the UK.

My collection: 7" single no. 5839
Found: Discogs.com, received May 18, 2017
Cost: $4
Tracks: 'Ooh aah... Just a little bit (Motiv8 radio edit)' / 'Ooh aah... Just a little bit (Motiv8 extended vocal mix)'

Love the life - Bass Culture featuring Gina G

This promotional double 12" single was a steal at 1 pound. I found it during a holiday in London. I was already familiar with Gina G, so I was a bit intrigued what this track would be like. According to the promo sheet enclosed in this set, 'Bass Culture exploded onto the international music scene in the early Nineties with their debut single 'Love the life' establishing them as Australia's leading dance outfit. The track featuring Gina G of 'Ooh aah... Just a little bit' fame, was the first in a string of successful singles for the band.'

Well, in Australia maybe, but in Europe no-one had heard of Bass Culture. And they never would, because they wouldn't reach the UK singles chart with this release either.

My collection: 12" single no. 310
Found: Record Exchange, London, 1999
Cost: 1 pound
Tracks: 'Love the life (Club mix)', 'Love the life (radio edit)' / 'Love the life (Hard life mix)' // 'Love the life (Pee Wee's mix)' / 'Love the life (Ivan Gough's mix)'

Ooh aah... Just a little bit - Gina G

Gina G was born as Gina Mary Gardiner on August 3, 1970 in Brisbane, Australia. In 1996 she was chosen by producer Jonathan King to represent the UK in the 1996 Eurovision Song Contest. It was the UK's most successful Eurovision entry - at least in the UK singles chart: it went to number one in the week of the Contest. Unfortunately, the song only came eighth in the Contest itself, which was mainly down to her singing off-key during her performance.

A handful of remixes were released on two commercially available cd-singles. Four remixes by Soul Solution, however, were only available on this promotional 12" single. A rarity!

My collection: 12" single no. 346
Found: Esprit Mailorder, UK, 2000
Cost: 10 pounds
Tracks: 'Ooh aah... Just a little bit (Soul Solution Main Vocal)', 'Ooh aah... Just a little bit (Soul Solution Radio Version)' / 'Ooh aah... Just a little bit (Soul Solution Dub)', 'Ooh aah... Just a little bit (Instrumental)'
