The Style Council recorded 'Have you ever had it blue' for the soundtrack of the movie 'Absolute beginners'. After David Bowie's song of the same name was released as a single, the Style Council's track was the next single to be taken from the soundtrack album.
Although this single couldn't match the success of Bowie's track, it still managed to climb to number 14 in the UK singles chart and number 20 in the Dutch Top 40.

Shout to the top - Style Council
'No! To abolition of the GLC & the local councils. Yes! To a nuclear free world. Yes! To the Bengali Workers Association. Yes! To the thrill of the romp. Yes! To all involved in animal rights. Yes! To fanzines. Yes! To belief'. This statement can be read on the back of the sleeve of this single, released by the Style Council in 1984. It was at the height of the Conservative Party's reign of terror in the UK, and the Style Council were offering some hope to all the people who had become jobless and hopeless in the country. It's quite ironic that the song was heavily featured at the 2009 Conservative Party UK Annual Conference in Manchester last year.
'Shout to the top!' reached number 7 in the UK singles chart and number 24 in the Dutch Top 40 back in 1984.

Long hot summer - The Style Council
The official title of this single is 'A Paris', a four track ep with 'Long hot summer' as the lead track. The Style Council had formed earlier on in 1983 and consisted of ex-The Jam frontman Paul Weller together with Mick Talbot, Steve White and Weller's then-wife, backing singer Dee C. Lee.
This single reached number 3 in the UK singles chart and remained the Style Council's biggest hit. In 1989 a new version of the track was released, but that one only made number 48.
