Love is in the air (Ballroom mix) - John Paul Young

John Paul Young released 'Love is in the air' in 1978, and it became such a big hit that people still remembered it throughout the Eighties. Then in 1992, when the movie Strictly Ballroom was made, a new mix of the song was created just for the soundtrack. And thus the 'Ballroom mix' of this song came to be. This new version reached number 3 in the Australian singles chart.

Apparently there was also a 12" single featuring an eight minute 'Strictly Dance Mix'. Maybe that's just a little bit too much.

My collection: 7" single no. 7800

Lost in your love - John Paul Young

John Paul Young will forever be remembered for that other single, 'Love is in the air', but that isn't the only single he ever released. In fact, between 1975 and 1983 he released ten studio albums and a multitude of singles.

'Lost in your love' was taken from the same album as 'Love is in the air', which explains why it sounds so similar. The single became a minor hit in the USA, Austria and the Netherlands only. The real pull of this particular single is that it is pressed on gold vinyl. Well.... gold in this case means a sort of oily brown, but it's still coloured vinyl.

My collection: 7" single 6283

Cost: 2 pounds
Tracks: 'Lost in your love' / 'Standing in the rain'

Love is in the air - John Paul Young

One of the classics from the year 1978. 'Love is in the air' was performed by John Paul Young. It became his only worldwide hit in January 1978, peaking at number 2 in Australia, bumber 5 in the UK singles chart and number 11 in the Dutch Top 40.

It's a strange thing: whenever this song is played, people get a certain look in their eyes and they can't help dancing. Reportedly, the song was covered by Cher, to be included in her album 'Believe' (which spawned the hit single of the same name). It was, however, removed from the album before it was released.

My collection: 7" single no. 1064
Found: London, October 18, 1989
Cost: 50p
Tracks: 'Love is in the air' / 'Love you so bad it hurts'
