I wasn't actively searching for this single, but I was ordering a few singles from a German seller and this promotional single from the UK just leapt out at me. Of course, I already own the German pressing of 'Love gives', but a promotional single always has its own special appeal.
'Rücksicht', of course, was the German entry for the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1983. Günter Hoffmann died a year after the Contest, after hurling himself
out of a hotel window in Rio de Janeiro on 15 March 1984.

Alan Sorrenti represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1980 with 'Non so che darei'. The song had a certain hit potential, and this was recognized by other artists as well. Some years before Hoffman & Hoffman would represent Germany at the same event, they recorded a cover version of the song in German.
'Wenn ich dich verlier' was given German lyrics by Bernd Meinunger and released as a single by the German duo.
Hoffmann & Hoffmann represented Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1983 with Rücksicht. The duo also recorded their song in English, as you can see here. The single appeared in record fairs and online for handsome prices, so I was suitably amused when I found this copy for half a euro at a local flea market.
While his brother committed suicide in 1984, Michael Hoffmann continued in music and worked as a producer and composer for other artists, including Eurovision veterans Gitte Haenning, Wencke Myhre and Nicole throughout the Eighties. Afterwards he focused mainly on making spiritual and meditative music.

During the 1983 Eurovision Song Contest, Germany was represented by the brothers Michael & Günter Hoffmann, who performed the song 'Rücksicht' ('Regard' or 'Respect'). The song is sung from the perspective of a man attempting to understand where his relationship went wrong. He says that he is not the only one to blame, as neither he nor his lover gave any real consideration to the other.
The song classified as 5th in a field of 20 participants, which was one of Germany's better achievements during the Eighties. Günter Hoffmann's died a year after the Contest, after hurling himself out of a hotel window in Rio de Janeiro on March 15, 1984.
