About this DMCA nonsense

Readers of this blog know that I write entries about various 7" and 12" single with an image of the sleeve, some random facts and memories, plus the information about that single - and whenever possible a link to a soundfile. Blogger has been deleting random posts over the last few months, without stating what the hell the problem was with those particular posts. I've been writing messages to them but they are as responsive as my deaf and insane neighbour.

Their actions are based on the DMCA, they write. Has any reader got any understanding of this? Since when is it illegal to link to stuff that's already out there on the web? And what does Blogger want - that I stop blogging? Your responses are welcome here. God knows that big corporations don't listen to reason, but it would be nice to hear from some people out there who do give a f***.

What's more, this blog will feature divshare from now on - I've noticed that they host a lot of music as well and it allows me to stream music instead of letting people download the stuff. Perhaps this is more acceptable to the DMCA people? We'll find out.

  1. I think your blog is GREAT and I love it.Keep up the good work no matter what. Some times these people can be really DUMB and that's why they don't have a real tangible explanation.

  2. LOVE your blog. I think the issue is that technically you are distributing music you do not have the right to distribute. It doesn't matter that it's already on the web. I have no idea how one would even buy a huge portion of what you post, so it seems odd. Usually, by the way, the RIAA, etc go after particular artists they are tracking versus whole blogs, so that would explain why certain acts disappear. It makes no sense.

Again, I do love what you do regardless. xo

  3. Excellent blog, those vinyl pieces bring back many good memories, also nice to have the artwork scans (I'd love the lables too!).
As for deleting posts, Blogger is scared to death of being sued I guess.
Technically offering any piece of music (nomatter it is no longer available or not, or mp3 rips of old slabs of vinyl, etc.) without permission of the copyright owners, even free of charge or for review purposes only, is supposedly illegal... :(
Not that I care much, sharing music is my hobby!
Anyway, keep up the good work!

Don't let the bastards get you down.

(If it does continue or gets worse though have a look at switching over to wordpress.com hosted.)
